UPDATE YOUR AUTUMN SELF-CARE ROUTINE WITH THESE THREE TIPS

Self-care has always been essential and is different for everyone. Whether that’s a sheet mask in the evening, a meditation session in the morning or looking up premium homes online to help you visualise your goals.

However, the motivation that you might have felt to look after yourself during the spring and summer can quickly slump and disappear as the season’s change, daylight gets shorter and shorter, and the long nights start rolling in.

Not only that, but life tends to get busier as we try to cram more into less time, which can easily lead to stress and feeling run-down in general. That’s why it is important to change up and update your self-care to reflect the change in season, and to help you feel more inspired again to look after number one.

Here are just three simple ideas that can make the most significant difference and that you can easily incorporate into your already existing self-care routine.

Make Your Surroundings Cosy

Add a little hygge into your life this autumn/winter. This Danish word is famous now all over the world (and for a good reason) and essentially means to create a warm, cosy atmosphere and enjoy the good, small things in life, with those around you.

Candles, cups of tea and hot chocolate. Blankets, cosying up with a loved one for a movie, putting on some fairy lights – these all count as hygge and are perfect for cheering up a miserable, rainy autumn day. Oversized scarves and hot water bottles – whatever your weapon of choice to fight the darkness, embrace this time of year instead of trying to fight it.

Get As Much Natural Light As Possible

Now that the clocks have gone back and our daylight hours are drastically reducing, making sure that you get as much natural light as possible should be one of your number one self-care priorities. Seasonal affective disorder (or SAD) is very real and more than just the ‘winter blues’, affecting one in three people in the UK, and can severely interfere with daily life. While it can be hard to get any time to go outside when you are cooped up and working all day try and use your break time to stretch your legs and go for a quick walk or sit down outside, even if it’s not the sunniest of days to keep your body’s internal clock going.

While it can be tempting to stay inside when it’s chilly, you will feel so much better for not only getting some natural daylight, but also some fresh air, both of which will help you to feel more energised and generally happier when the dark nights set in.

Change Your Skincare Routine

The combination of warm indoor air from having the heating turned on, alongside the cold air outside can leave your skin and hair feeling pretty dry and looking dull and lackluster. Autumn is the perfect time to change up your skincare and beauty routine to reflect the changing temperatures outside, and ramping up moisture is essential.

Swap your cleanser for a more moisturising and non-striping alternative and invest in a good moisturiser. It’s important to note that even oily skin types can get dehydrated. Remember not to forget about the rest of your body either – choose a moisturising shower gel and nourishing body cream, as well as a hydrating shampoo for your hair to leave you feeling your best while combating the cold elements.
