HOW TO DECLUTTER TEN IN TEN (#declutterteninten)
If you are reading this article, you may have followed the challenge that I created on Instagram – Declutter Ten in Ten (#declutterteninten) or maybe decluttering is just something you need to do.
Spring is a popular time to declutter but often, we have a big splurge then leave everything to build back up again!
Just before we moved house, I discovered Marie Kondo and her book changed my life. I totally look at things differently now. I’ve never been a big spender but her book made me spend even less and also made me realise just how little we need in our lives.
She also runs a course for anybody who wants to change their life which you can access here.
The key to decluttering is to keep on top of it and make it a way of life. However, over the last 12 months with decorating and renovating our house, I have got out of the decluttering habit and our home, although not full of clutter, feels like it needs decluttering a little.
Therefore, I came up with a simple system to help myself get back on top of things and today I will share with you how to ‘declutter ten in ten’ so that you can start today to get back on top of your home.
What is Declutter Ten in Ten
Declutter Ten in Ten is a way to declutter every day when you have a few minutes. You can do it while the dinner is cooking or even whilst you are waiting for the kettle to boil! The idea is you don’t need to set aside a day or a week or even a specific time to declutter, you literally do it as you go along in your everyday life. You declutter a minimum of ten items a day for ten days and that’s it. You can declutter more than ten if you wish but never less.
Why Ten in Ten?
Often the thought of decluttering can be overwhelming so this is a really simple system that anybody can do to start removing excess ‘stuff’ out of their house in small amounts on a daily basis. I thought ten was a manageable number for anybody who has no time to declutter. In just ten days that’s 100 things removed from your home.
What Happens at the End of the Ten Days?
After you’ve seen how easy it is to declutter ten things a day, if you need to, you can start your ten days again and just keep going. If you feel you’ve done all you need for now then stop. The system is flexible so you can do as much or as little as you wish.
You may just stop for a few weeks then start again, or you may wish to declutter for the first 10 days of every month. The beauty of this system is it’s up to you to do what works best to suit your lifestyle.
Making it as easy as you can for yourself will hopefully help you to stick with it for ten days.
