65 CRAFT IDEAS TO MAKE MONEY
There are so many craft ideas to make money from home and for some you don’t need to be that creative!
I’ve been making and selling crafts for over 10 years now and it’s definitely one of the highest profit earners when it comes to selling products.
Today I will share with you 65 craft ideas to make money that you may not have thought of.
Before we get started on the full list, it’s important to think about a few things with regards to your craft business.
Things to Think About
Where would you like to sell your crafts to make money? This will depend on whether you want to sell from home only or whether you are quite happy to get out there and meet people.
From home, you could sell on:
- e-Bay
- Etsy
- Facebook Marketplace
- From Your Own Facebook Page
- From Your Own Website or Blog (If you don’t have one, you can easily set one up in the next hour by following these instructions).
- Amazon Handmade
From outside your home you could sell at:
- Local Craft Fayres
- Playgroups
- School Fayres
- Set up Your Own Market Stall
- Trade Shows
- Car Boot Sales
A few other things to think about:
- The size of your craft item and whether you need to post it out
- The cost of materials (this is usually very low and craft profits are usually very high)
- Where to buy your materials from
- How long it will take you to produce one item
- How much you can sell your product for
So what can you make and sell for a profit? Here are some ideas to make money. There are a lot of crafts here but I have provided some with very basic instructions to help you get started. Many of these businesses can be started for less than £10.
1. Wreaths
Wreaths are very popular at Christmas but with more and more people taking an interest in the look of their homes, you can create all year round wreaths. They are a wonderful way to decorate a front door or your home and the styles that can be created are endless.
You can buy a basic pack of 5 wreath wires here for less than £5 and some florist wire here, then all you need are some artificial flowers/foliage/berries for decoration, some wire cutters like these ones and some twine or ribbon for hanging.
To make a wreath you simply wrap your foliage and flowers around your wreath wires and secure with florist wire, then add a loop with ribbon or twine for hanging.
Maybe try making one for your own front door and see if your family and friends comment when they visit!
2. Dolls
Traditional handmade dolls are a rare find these days but what little girl doesn’t love a doll. You could get creative and offer a service where you sell a doll with the same colour hair and eyes as the child or even wears the same clothes. Think outside the box to create a doll that every girl dreams of.
3. Cushions
Cushions are always a winner! You can make small cushions, large cushions, pet cushions, fragranced cushions – and the list goes on.
Select some fabrics and filling and get sewing.
If you don’t fancy sewing by hand, you don’t need to spend a fortune on a sewing machine. This mini sewing machine is perfect to get started and has some great reviews!
4. Plaques and Signs
Wooden plaques and signs are very popular and can be made in all sorts of shapes and sizes. For this one it helps if you can write creatively.
Start by ordering some blank plaques (there’s a huge selection to choose from here) and paint the front in a pale colour. You can then practice decorating them by writing with permanent pens and adding embelishments. Attach some twine for hanging and you’re ready to sell!
5. Padded Hearts
To make a padded heart is very simple and follows the sample principle as a cushion. You basically need two sheets of fabric the same shape and size and place one on top of the other with the patterns facing outwards to sew. As well as the fabric and filling, some pretty buttons always look nice on padded hearts and you will need some twine for hanging too.
6. Jewellery
You could make and sell some beautiful jewellery and there are so many different types and styles.
Here are some ideas to make money:
- Children’s beaded bracelets
- Metal jewellery
- Precious stone necklaces
- Jewellery made from old cutlery
- Shell and beach inspired jewellery
- Wedding jewellery
- Character jewellery
You can buy this jewellery making kit for less than £10 here and start your jewellery business right away.
7. 3D Letter Crafts
In recent years, large words and letters have become increasingly popular to display around your home. You can buy basic letters made out of mdf, then decorate them how you wish. Alphabet letters and names also work well for children’s bedrooms.
8. Personalised Pictures
If you are creative or artistic, why not make and sell personalised pictures. You can either paint or draw the pictures, create something out of natural materials such as pebbles yourself or you can use a graphic design package like Canva to create something. If you create graphic pictures, you will need a good quality colour printer to print off your pictures.
9. Handmade Chocolates
I couldn’t do this because I would eat them all but maybe you could? These are best sold at craft fayres and local events but if you are a little bit of a chocolate connoisseur then these could go down a treat!
Weddings and special events could also be your target for selling these.
10. Handmade Soap
Natural soaps are very popular with people that don’t like to use chemicals on their skin or have sensitive skin. You can solve this problem for them by supplying beautiful natural handmade soaps.
If this is something that appeals to you but you don’t know where to start, this is how.
11. Hairclips and Bows
All girls like to look pretty and hairclips and bows are popular with children. These are simpler to make than you think. You can buy the actual basic clips in bulk off Amazon here then add your decoration.
Once you start selling, school fayres are a great place to make some extra sales.
12. Glasses Cases
A beautifully designed reading or sunglasses case can add style rather than the standard ones supplied by opticians. Here are some tutorials explaining exactly how you can gain this skill and turn it into a money maker.
13. Wooden Objects
If you are handy with your hands and good with tools then handmade wooden products could be your money maker. Here are some ideas of items you can make and sell:
- Toys
- Shelves
- Rulers
- Bowls
- Garden Ornaments
- Fruit and other ornaments
- Desk Organisers
- Soap Dishes
- Keyrings
- Bookends
- Jewellery Boxes
….and lots more, but you get the idea. Of course you will need the tools and or the machinery to produce these items and it helps if you have a shed or an outbuilding to use as your workshop, but once you’ve invested in that, the actual wood can be quite reasonable to get started.
14. Greetings Cards
Handmade cards have come a long way in the last few years and crafters are getting more and more creative in the way they present and produce them. This can be a very enjoyable way to make some money whilst letting your creativity flow.
To get started you will need:
- Blank cards and envelopes
- Embelishments
- Or if you wish to create graphics for the cards, again you will need a good quality colour printer.
When you are ready to sell your cards, as they are not bulky, you could also ask your family and friends to take them into work to sell and offer them a commission on the sales!
15. Labels
Personalised labels are a great and really simple way to make some extra money without too much effort. Again, Canva is a free online design platform that you can use for design, then all you need are blank labels and a printer.
You can create labels for around the home, for gifts, for wine bottles, for clothing, for business owners or even for your own products that you are going to make and sell.
This is a fairly cheap business to set up and once you’ve designed all your labels, you can just print them off as and when you get an order.

There are some beautiful baby fabrics available, or maybe you could personalise them.
21. Soft Toys
The sky is the limit with soft toys. If knitting and sewing is your thing, you could create some gorgeous cuddly toys with your handy craft.
Another idea would be to make the toy educational, so maybe add some buttons to help children learn to do them up, or some laces to teach them how to tie shoes.
The key here is to think of how you could make your toys different to create some demand.
22. Wooden Pallet Furniture/Recycled Furniture
Turn old pallets or old furniture into something new. You can often pick up pallets and old furniture free so apart from your time and a small amount of paint and materials, this won’t cost you much to get started.

All you need is some candle wicks, candle wax, fragrance and jars, teacups or mugs to hold your candles. You can buy these new or search charity shops to find some beautiful designs.
Simply place your candle wick into your jar and add your melted wax (this should be melted using a double burner for safety). Mix in your fragrance just before pouring into your jar.
